Kiwis thrive in full sun or partial shade and may be grown in any good garden
soil. They prefer rich humus soil with a pH around 6.5. Plant them in an area
that is moist but well drained.
Once they are established, feed your vines lightly in the spring when the plants
are dormant using a general-purpose (10-10-10) fertilizer. Feed again just after
bloom in early June.
Prune your kiwis in early spring or late fall after fruiting. Flowers develop
on growth of the previous year, so cut back to about one third of the previous
year's growth. Since the male vine does not produce fruit, it can be pruned immediately
after flowering and cut back to vigorous new growth.
